2010 Biennial of the Americas

2010 Biennial of the Americas

July 20 2010
Denver, Colorado

On July 20, keynote speaker Michael K. Stone, senior editor at the Center for Ecoliteracy, will explore the Center's guiding principles for Smart by Nature sustainability education, especially "Nature Is Our Teacher." He will address the shifts in perception that occur when we use nature as our model and mentor for sustainable living, as well as the implications of these shifts for education.

The 2010 Biennial of the Americas is an international event celebrating the culture, ideas, and people of the Western Hemisphere. Throughout the month of July, the City of Denver will host visitors from around the world in a cross-cultural experience that seeks to bridge the artistic, intellectual, and political progress of the hemisphere's 35 nations. This year's overarching themes — innovation, sustainability, community, and the arts — will inform a diverse array of public programming, including live performances, a speaker-dialogue series, and "The Nature of Things," a multidisciplinary exhibit of contemporary artistic practices throughout the American continent that illustrate the Biennial's four themes.

The Biennial main stage and community gathering place is the newly renovated McNichols building in the heart of Denver's Civic Center Park.
